April 14th – Comedian Peter Berman headlined Saturday night at Charlie O’s, located inside the Alexandria Hotel in Downtown LA. With the revitalization of downtown Los Angeles happening, bringing comedy to the area is part of the plan. The night was hosted by legendary Saturday Night Live alum, Garrett Morris. The audience that night was probably one of the toughest I’ve ever witnessed at any comedy club. The first two comedians to take the stage bombed miserably. One comic was so flustered, he started the same joke he already told before he caught himself, then decided to end his set early. Probably a good thing for him. When it came time for Berman to perform his 40 minute set, he knew that there wasn’t going to be much response from the audience to his questions. Fortunately, he took charge and had fun it, winning over the skeptical audience, pulling out laughs from every nook and cranny in the club. One of the highlights was when two young women entered the club and Berman addressed them, then went into a 5 minute recap of all the punchlines he had delivered before they arrived. I was crying it was so f*$@ing funny! Check out “Right Here Reuben” on his epiTUNES page, its highly highly recommended.
